An Urban Year – Month Two

This month took us to California for what turned in to a wedding celebration as well as a funeral. It was a bizarre combination of emotions but we were pulled a few directions, and though I had hoped to photograph Juniper in Berkeley, we just didn’t have time. I have so many beautiful photos from the trip but I’ll save that for another post. For now, lets dig into this months photos.

I wandered the Hillsboro Village and 12 South neighborhoods knowing there were some great pieces there, however it was a Sunday and packed with too many cars and people. I never felt so old as I did while down there. All the cute trendy college girls and their well groomed men had me deciding that it was not a day for strollers. I re-routed to Sylvan Park, a neighborhood I am falling in love with, like house hunting kind of love. Uh Oh!

I had read about this piece somewhere and it seemed fitting with fall weather here and sunflowers in every store right now. The artist of the wall of sunflowers is Mark Palen, he was a former railroad exec in Nashville before heading to Europe to pursue art, a pretty incredible transition!  The opposite side of the building also has a flower scene, I can’t figure out who the artist was thought. It’s an abandoned flower shop so it was fun to explore.

She had a blast, and is obsessed with this little rubber dinosaur. I grabbed it at Target in their little dollar area for our flights and it’s been a winner!

Last month we had a really bright wall, this time it was more subtle.

This seriously made me laugh! I love the ¡-! emphasis too, as if it were in Spanish, except, it’s not.

What excites me most about this last photo, is pending this isn’t painted over anytime soon, it will be a great wall to revisit and watch her growth up the stem of these flowers.
