For Junipers First Year, I photographed her every week in the same spot with the same white backdrop. It worked perfectly for creating a visual comparison for all of her growth and change. For year two I tossed around a few ideas, most being a similar idea to capture her in the same setting each month. However I decided it would be more interesting if I actually make a trip out of each monthly photo session and include some of the really amazing surroundings we live in. I’ve decided each month I will include a fun spot she’s never been too, many I’ve never been to included. All within an easy drive that I can get to and back from in a half day or less. I have some ideas that include a few reservoirs, towns and simply scenery only offered in the Rocky Mountains. I imagine most of these drives will be just her and I, however I hope Matt can join us on as many as possible.
This first drive included a spot I had no idea existed that took about 45 min to get to from the house. It’s right outside of Carbondale up Prince Creek Rd. and the only reason it took that long is you are on mediocre dirt roads for a good chunk of it. If you know me at all, you know I support all things dirt road so I had a great time taking this drive. Our final landing spot was Dinkle Lake. I kid you not, that is the name and I LOVE it. It feels so fitting. It’s hardly a lake, more like a giant pond. But it offered green beauty as well as harsh and sharp rocks and I love the combination.
