Lotion Bars

My mom came to visit last week and in addition to Easter treats for Juniper, she also came armed with the goods to make awesome lotion bars. It was so simple and we pulled it off with a wandering crawling baby so I am pretty sure anyone can pull it off. And they are super yummy smelling and basic with zero chemical additives which is the best bonus.

So here it is, I’d love to hear if you try it. I’ve learned there is so much personalizing you can do with them since you can mix and match ingredients and scents for different results! We did a basic one but it’s still lovely. It has a great light honey smell from the beeswax and I took a couple to co workers and they are fans.

You will need these three ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Coconut Oil
  • 2 oz. Grapeseed Oil (High Heat works the best)
  • 2 oz. Raw Beeswaw (Shredded or finely chopped is best so that it melts evenly)

We used an electric kitchen scale to weigh everything and that is something I highly suggest. They can be purchased pretty inexpensively.

Let’s ignore what appears to be bite marks in the wax as that is where I dug in with my fingers to break off a chunk to shred. Please note, the wax is crazy hard so whichever way you choose to break it down, either shredding or finely chopping, know that you should no longer use that utensil for anything else outside of beeswax concoctions. It’s pretty adhesive.

Once you have the ingredients measured out, place in a microwavable bowl. I used my glass 4 cup measuring bowl. And microwave until everything is melted entirely and evenly. Just keep an eye on it, checking every 30 seconds or so. It’s this easy!

We then poured them into these containers that my mom grabbed at the dollar store, to be used as molds and they can be reused over and over.

They started to set pretty quickly but we gave them a good two hours before popping them out. I store the bar in the container so it’s not just sitting out but they would make adorable little gifts wrapped up in brown paper with a twine bow!

The variations come when you change up the combinations like avocado butter or Shea butter vs. coconut oil, olive oil vs. grapeseed oil, and then the scents you can add are endless. My mom suggests Bramble Berry for all sorts of goodies and ideas! She also started making soaps and left me with a Cherry Almond. Oh Ma Gah! Smells so good, it’s like air freshener for the bathroom!

Hope you enjoy and experiment! It’s so easy. I have enough ingredients to make batches upon batches if I wanted, so they are extremely cost efficient too!
